Supercell, the developer of mobile MOBA Brawl Stars, has announced that all gacha mechanics from Brawl Stars will be removed in an upcoming release. Supercell hasn’t gone into all the details on how this will work, but we’ll learn more during the next episode of Brawl Talk on the official Brawl Stars website. YouTube.
What we do know so far is that the new update wipes out all random chances in unlocking characters and replaces the loot box setup with a progression system where you progress to each new hero.
Gacha Remove them all?
This is an important step away from the dreaded gacha and may appeal to you if you can’t stand rolling the dice to play the way you want.
It’s pretty big news when a mobile gaming giant like Supercell takes steps to avoid using loot boxes as part of regular gameplay in one of its big titles.
It’ll be interesting to see if this is a one-time thing, or a sign that developers aren’t loving gacha anymore.
A Loot Box Swan Song
If you hate loot boxes, you might not want to grab the game just yet, as the gacha mechanics go out with a bang. There will be a huge box-themed event until the new update kicks in, with box-themed skins up for grabs.
The Bye Bye Boxes event encourages players to score one billion takedowns before the next update, unlocking loot for the entire community.
A great title done with random reels
Brawl Stars is a 3v3 MOBA with additional battle royale modes. It hit the virtual shelves in 2017 and has garnered a few BAFTA nominations in the mobile gaming scene in that time.
The different heroes and the skills they bring are a huge part of the gaming experience, so a progressive unlock system will shake things up.
