Super Mario Odyssey Android Emulation

Uploaded in a video to reddit, a video of Super Mario Odyssey running on Android, blew minds. Thanks to a new update to the early development Nintendo Switch emulator Skyline, you can now play the game at 60 fps.

The post revealed that current performance is between 40-60 fps. In comparison, previous versions of the game would not boot at all or run poorly. This is a stunning improvement!

Unfortunately, there are still many issues that make this far from a playable experience. As is typical with early emulators, there are a myriad of graphical issues that make the game unplayable.

Is Switch emulation on Android any good?

Despite the huge improvement in emulation speed, the emulation accuracy is still not where it needs to be. Skyline’s improvements are big and fast, but they’re still not a playable emulator in most titles.

Furthermore, it may be years before Skyline is at the level of say Cita, the best 3DS emulator. When that day comes, it will be a glorious time to be an emulation fan on Android.

At the moment there are other issues with playing Super Mario Odyssey on Android. For example, you must have an existing save file to play the game, as Skyline cannot create one.
