Witcher developer CD Projekt RED has ramped up its stealth skills to the max. As a huge surprise, the Polish RPG studio has released Gwent: Rogue Mage, a single-player adventure on mobile and PC.
What is Gwent: Rogue Mage?
Gwent: Rogue Mage is a massive expansion for the original free-to-play card game. However, it’s also a standalone adventure, complete with a new story to enjoy.
CD Projekt RED announced in an interview with IGN that the game has been in development for three years. The title was created because players want more than just PvP from the card game.
“There are a significant number of players who want a more PvE experience from Gwent,” said Vladimir Tortsov, the game’s director. “While Gwent multiplayer is a fantastic game, we fully understand that many Witcher players loved Gwent’s original minigame for completely different reasons. With Rogue Mage, we want to give this audience a reason to play modern Gwent in the format they prefer.”
As such, this game is a new roguelike experience that allows you to experience the game in new ways over and over again. You start with about a dozen cards and explore the world to build your deck.
Rogue Mage is a comprehensive experience for fans of the original game. CD Projekt claims it will take approximately 30 hours to complete! Can you beat that time?
How much is Gwent: Rogue Mage?
Unlike the original game, Gwent: Rogue Mage is a premium experience. No more free-to-play gubbins here! Instead, you have to pay more than $9.99 for the standard edition of the game.
In addition, a more expensive option is available for lovers of the original multiplayer game. The Premium Edition costs $19.99 and comes with a number of skins, cosmetics, and card packs for the multiplayer game.
Rogue Mage was created without the need for microtransactions. Of course, that’s because Gwent is still bringing those in.
The new Witcher game will be released on Android later today. It will also be available on PC and iOS.
