Nintendo has teamed up with developer DeNa on a wealth of new mobile games. After a successful number of Nintendo mobile games in the past, the company’s new Nintendo Systems company will create new titles for everyone to play.
This comes after a record number of downloads of Nintendo mobile games on Android and more. With sweeping changes to titles like Mario Kart Tour; this could be great for the future of mobile gaming.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed that the Japanese gaming giant is doing extremely well with mobile downloads. After years of reports claiming the company is underperforming, that doesn’t seem to be a problem for the company.
As of October 2022, Nintendo games on smartphones have accumulated more than 800 million downloads. In more than 160 countries, the developer’s mobile games have seen more downloads than unit sales in the company’s entire history of hardware.
“This figure, 800 million, is the total number of units sold for all Nintendo hardware since we launched Nintendo Entertainment System (Famicom) in 1983,” he says. said. “The mobile business has seen the same numbers in just six and a half years since 2016, when we released our first app.”
Of all of Nintendo’s mobile releases, there has been one notable leader. The Fire Emblem Heroes gacha game is by far the most successful game that the Japanese company has released on mobile.
Earlier this year, the gacha game reached $1 billion in sales. As Nintendo’s most popular game, Heroes has not only helped bring in revenue, but also revived interest in the main console series.
Unfortunately, many of Nintendo’s mobile releases are quite hit and miss. However, we hope that the company’s new range of titles will be strong releases for the new generation.
