Square Enix is currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, and while that means a crushing reckoning with the passage of time for some of us, it also means announcements! Oops, announcements.
One of the biggest revolves around Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis. It’s an upcoming mobile game that tells the full story of FFVII – all the games, the movie, everything – in one beautiful package.
And it will go into closed beta this year. When this year? Well, there’s only six months left, so we’re going to guess one of those. We don’t have an exact date yet. We do have a new trailer though – here it is.
Another possibility for a remake, right? What does that mean at all? A lot of things, we think. Either way, the game looks like an interesting mix of sparkling newness and charmingly clunky antiquity. Just like us, really.
You can expect the game to be free to play when it lands, but how that will work remains to be seen. Maybe you can buy new hats? People apparently like to buy digital hats.
Anyway, that’s all we know about Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis right now, but we’ll of course keep you updated as we hear more. Because that’s the kind of crazy stuff that we absolutely love. Love it. LOVE IT.
